When your pet is dehydrated, or if hydration cannot be maintained
-
If your pet is not eating (anorexic)
-
Treatment of shock
-
Monitoring of cardiovascular and respiratory status, e.g.
-
Heart rate, rhythm and sounds
-
Pulse rate and quality
-
Mucous membrane colour and capillary refill time
-
Blood pressure
-
Blood oxygenation
-
Respiratory rate and effort
-
Lung sounds
-
-
When injectable medications are required
-
This may be the case if your pet will not take or keep down oral medications
-
Some conditions also specifically require this
-
-
Pre and post-operative monitoring for a sedation or general anaesthetic procedure
